The written page is more than a substrate from which language can be lifted. The page itself encodes a language: of the pressure of key- or pen-strokes, words written slowly or clumsily or hesitantly, all manner of ductus. The Site of Text records the performance of writing by preserving its gestures; like the topographic features of a semiotic map, the thin soft clay surface of the tablet provides agility in thought, an ongoing forming process. The research attempts to deal with the seemingly permanent nature of the written material, as well as interrogating what is conveyed by the site of text.
